Vintage 1930s Trip Around the World Crib Quilt From Texas | Feed Sack Printing on Front & Back | 36” x 37”

This crib-size Trip Around the World Quilt is from Texas and is made from Depression-era feedsacks with feedsack print visible in parts of the front and over the entire back. It has been hand pieced and hand quilted, with quilting in a diagonal grid through the body of the quilt and in a twisted rope pattern along the four-sided border.

The feedsack print on the back reads: Morrison Milling Co., Brand: Kitchen Queen, Product: Flour and includes the Morrison Art Deco diamond border enclosing its brand emblem. The Morrison company was located in Denton, Texas.

The back is made of printed feedsacks while the binding is tan cotton that has been handstitched to both sides. The cotton batting is very lightweight. This quilt offers unmistakable evidence of how carefully families during the Depression-era repurposed printed cotton feed sacks into textiles, including quilts.

CONDITION: The quilt is sturdy and in very good condition with age-related fading and a small tear in one block right at the center of the quilt - see photos. Please examine the photos as they form an important part of the description. The feed sack printing visible through portions of both the front and back is an original characteristic of the materials used and is one of the quilt’s historic features and is not considered a condition issue. The quilt also has been equipped with four display tabs on the back.
The quilt has been soaked, freshly hand washed and line dried, giving it a light, natural, sun-dried cotton scent (not artificially fragranced).
