Beautiful vintage The Reel Appliqué Quilt, dating to approximately the late 1950s to early 1960s. Measuring 74” x 82”, the quilt is made of 16 blocks, arranged four across and four down. Each block is formed from gracefully curved cornflower-blue appliqué pieces with four pointed leaf-shaped extensions.
There are two blue borders - one around all four sides and another on the top and bottom.
The hand quilting is in echo outlines of the applique and in diagonal grids. The back is a vivid red, yellow and green floral cotton while the binding is cream-white cotton that has been machine stitched to the front and handstitched to the back. The cotton batting is lightweight and thin.
CONDITION: The quilt is in very good vintage condition. The cornflower-blue cotton has mellowed with age and has subtle variations and fading, with some small marks/uneven fading. Please examine all photographs as they form an important part of the description. The quilt has been soaked, freshly hand washed and line dried, giving it a light, natural, sun-dried cotton scent (not artificially fragranced).
