This beautiful old quilt is constructed in a repeating Pine Burr variation with large four-pointed blocks set among alternating plain blocks. The pieced blocks combine mustard yellow with blue, pink, red, and white printed cottons. The small-scale geometric and novelty-style prints are classic fabrics of the 1920s.
The quilt is hand quilted, with parallel and diagonal quilting lines worked throughout the curved patchwork blocks. It has a solid blue cotton backing while the edge at some point was repaired or reinforced with machine zigzag stitching. The cotton batting is unsized and lightweight.
CONDITION: This quilt is being sold as a cutter quilt due to condition. It shows substantial age-related wear, including overall fading, some light staining, fabric deterioration, open areas and tears within several of the pieced blocks and scattered small holes.Black zigzag stitching is visible in several areas where the quilt has previously been reinforced or repaired, including along portions along the edge.
Despite the condition issues, the Pine Burr blocks retain attractive and usable sections of original 1920s fabric and hand quilting. Please review all photographs carefully, as they form an important part of the description.
