This is a 1940s-1950s vintage daffodil appliqué quilt featuring yellow daffodils with green and blue-green stems, leaves, and decorative accents on a white cotton ground.
The quilt has a large central swirling daffodil arrangement with individual daffodil motifs extending around all four sides. The lower border features a row of upright daffodils, while the side and upper borders incorporate additional floral appliqué with angular green foliage. The quilt is finished with a scalloped outer edge.
The fabrics and construction are consistent with approximately 1940–1950. The solid yellow and green cottons, appliqué style, and floral design are all characteristic of American quilts made during this period.
One of the strongest features of this quilt is the beautiful hand quilting. The white ground is finely hand quilted throughout with twisted rope patterns and double diagonals. The quilting is dense, carefully executed and beautifully intact.
The back is white cotton while the binding is yellow cotton that has been machine stitched to the front and handstitched to the back. The cotton batting is thin and lightweight.
CONDITION: Very good vintage condition. Please review all photographs closely, as they form an important part of the description. The quilt has been soaked, freshly hand washed and line dried, giving it a light, natural, sun-dried cotton scent (not artificially fragranced).
