Vintage 1940s Scrappy Grandmother’s Fan Cutter Quilt – Hand Appliquéd & Hand Quilted - 72” x 82”

Vintage Grandmother’s Fan Quilt made with colorful cotton prints and with a center composed of individually appliquéd Grandmother’s Fan motifs arranged in rows on a light/cream-white ground. Small three-circle appliqué accents are scattered between the fans, giving the quilt an especially charming folk-art quality. The fabrics include florals, feedsack-type prints, geometrics, plaids, stripes and solids in red, blue, yellow, aqua, pink, lavender and other colors.

The appliqué work is outlined with contrasting hand embroidery, and the quilt is hand quilted in an all-over shell grid. A particularly striking orange-red border with white geometric squares frames the quilt.

The back is cream-white cotton while the red-orange border fabric has been turned to the back and handstitched to form the binding. The cotton batting is lightweight.

CONDITION: This quilt is being sold as a cutter quilt due to condition issues that include several large areas of fabric loss along the outer border, including holes with batting/backing exposed, as clearly shown in the photographs. The center of the quilt is largely (90%) intact, though there is wear, scattered staining and age-related discoloration, and a few of the appliqué fabrics show some deterioration or loss.

Despite the damage, a large portion of the center remains intact and contains numerous attractive vintage fan blocks. Please review all photographs carefully as they are an important part of the description.
