This exceptionally hand-pieced bright and beautiful Bethlehem Star Quilt dates to approximately the early 1940s and is made from hundreds of diamond pieces that form a striking two-color eight-pointed star in vibrant red and green against a white cotton background.
The large central star is carefully pieced from hundreds of diamond-shaped pieces arranged in alternating red and green rows. The design is surrounded by generous white background areas filled with elaborate hand quilted feather wreaths. The quilt is also hand quilted in outlines of each diamond along with hand quilted diagonal grids along the four-sided distinctive red and green border.
The back is white cotton while the binding is red cotton that has been machine stitched to the front and handstitched to the back. The cotton batting is thin and lightweight.
CONDITION: Excellent vintage condition overall, with the red and mint green fabrics retaining strong, attractive color. Please examine the photographs as they form an important part of the description.
