Such a pretty lavender Vintage Ocean Waves Quilt dating to the 1940s, featuring hundreds of small triangles that have been hand-pieced and hand-quilted.
The triangles are made up of 1930s and 1940s prints, including florals, plaids, polka dots, geometric patterns, and what appear to be vintage feedsack fabrics. The colorful triangles form the traditional Ocean Waves pattern, with a solid lavender ground.
The lavender is a lovely soft orchid shade with pink undertones, while the hand quilting is in with lines through triangle patchwork and simple crosshatches in the lavender squares. The back is an offwhite/cream cotton while the binding is purple cotton that has been machine stitched to the front and handstitched to the back. The cotton batting is very lightweight and thin.
CONDITION: This lovely old quilt is being sold as a cutter quilt due to age-related fabric deterioration. Of the hundreds of 1.5-inch triangles, about 20 have fraying, splitting or fabric loss, particularly in some of the white fabrics. The lavender fabric remains relatively intact, and the overall Ocean Waves design is beautifully preserved. Please examine all photographs carefully as they form an important part of the description.
