Antique 1919 Sheepfold Quilt – Hand Quilted – Signed and Dated – Blue and White – 70” x 72”

This antique Sheepfold quilt is signed and dated 1919 and made from a variety of antique fabrics, including the indigo blue floral that makes up the background. It features 30 pieced blocks arranged in alternating vertical rows against the indigo blue background.

The blocks incorporate a variety of early 20th-century cotton fabrics, including indigo blue floral prints, checks, ginghams, plaids, woven stripes, and shirting fabrics in shades of blue, cream, brown, tan, and pale green.

The hand quilting is in crosshatch grids across the body of the quilt and through the four-sided border. The inscription “N. L. W. 1919,” is hand embroidered in pink thread directly onto the blue fabric along the front border.

The quilt has a solid light blue cotton back that has been turned to the front and handstitched to form the binding. The cotton batting is lightweight and thin.

CONDITION: Excellent antique condition with some age-related fading consistent with a quilt more than 100 years old. Please examine the photographs carefully as they form an important part of the description.
