$219.00

  • Details
This beautiful antique Basket of Diamonds Quilt dates to 1885–1900 with a striking geometric arrangement of pieced diamond blocks in deep indigo blue, double pink, and black-and-white floral cotton prints, set against a finely patterned blue-and-white background.

The fabrics are wonderful examples of late 19th-century textiles, including indigo prints with tiny red dots, traditional double pinks, and small-scale floral prints. The alternating blocks create an attractive, repeating geometric design.

The quilt is hand pieced and hand quilted. The quilt has a white cotton back that has been turned to the front and handstitched to form the binding. The cotton batting is lightweight and thin.

CONDITION: This quilt is being sold as a cutter quilt though it is in remarkably good antique condition throughout most of its surface, with the original fabrics, piecing, and hand quilting remaining largely intact. Unfortunately, the perimeter has significant wear, including fraying and fabric deterioration along the edges. This would be an excellent candidate for restoration or edge repair, particularly for someone wishing to preserve it as a complete antique quilt. Please examine all photographs carefully, as they form an important part of the description.
