Such a lovely, colorful Grandmother’s Flower Garden Quilt, circa 1920s–1930s, that has been entirely hand-pieced and hand-quilted. Made of more than 2,000 hexagons, the quilt features alternating deep red and pale blue flowers with bright yellow centers, surrounded by multicolored floral and geometric print hexagons.
The fabrics are purple circular prints, blue and white florals, pink blossoms, green floral prints, and distinctive yellow, black, and white novelty prints. Cream-colored connecting hexagons form a continuous background between the flowers.
The hand quilting is in a repeating shell pattern throughout. The back is cream-white cotton while the binding is a wide blue cotton that in spots has faded to almost white. It has been handstitched to both sides. The cotton batting is lightweight and unsized.
