Beautifully constructed and extensively hand-quilted, this Double Nine Patch Quilt dates to the 1920s. This traditional two-color quilt features rich turkey red cotton paired with a crisp white cotton ground with exceptional hand quilting.
The quilting is in very tiny stitches in a very dense all-over crosshatch grid that complements the Nine-Patch pattern. The quilting is beautifully executed and remains clearly visible throughout.
The back is white cotton while the binding is a narrow red cotton that has been machine stitched to the front and handstitched to the back. The cotton batting is lightweight and thin.

CONDITION: Beautiful vintage condition with the natural softness and lightly puckered texture associated with an extensively hand-quilted textile of this age. The red fabrics retain strong, rich coloration, and the intricate quilting remains well defined. Please examine the photographs carefully as they form an important part of the description. The quilt has been soaked, freshly hand washed with fragrance-free detergent and line dried outdoors, giving it a light, natural, sun-dried cotton scent (not artificially fragranced).
With its classic red-and-white color combination, intricate workmanship, and traditional pattern this is a classic American quilt of the early 20th century.
