Antique Diamond Field Quilt; 1870-1890s; handmade; cottagecore; 69"x80"

This historic Diamond Field Quilt is circa 1870-1890s and is hand-stitched and hand-quilted. It is made from more than 4,000 2-inch hexagons with each "garden" separated by tiny (one-inch) diamonds. It also has a patchwork four-sided pink and teal blue patterned border.

The back is another historic cotton fabric of grey and red stripes that has been turned to the front and hand-stitched to form the binding. The cotton batting is medium-weight and is made from the unsized cotton of the late 1800s, which means it has separated or "clumped" in spots.

The quilt is in very good antique condition with age-related issues including some seam separations, several patches, and beginning fabric loss in several of the brown hexagons. There is also overall fading of the fabrics. See photos.

This very lovely and historic quilt has been soaked and hand-washed and is clean and soft. It measures 69 inches by 80 inches. From a smoke-free, pet-free home. Shown on a queen-size bed.
