Antique Bethlehem Star Quilt with feather quilting, 1920-1930s; hand-quilted; 80"x81"

This is a wonderful 1920-1930s Star of Bethlehem Quilt in the soft pastel colors popular in the era. It has been at least partially hand-pieced and is entirely hand-quilted in outlines of the patchwork and in feathers and feather wreaths in the white areas.

The back is white cotton while the original binding has been replaced with a wider white cotton that has been machine stitched to both sides. The cotton batting is unsized and lightweight.

The quilt is in very good antique condition, with some deterioration/fabric loss of the white cotton, especially along the borders. I call this type of cotton "slubby cotton" which was common in the 1920s and 30s and is beautiful especially when quilted, but is weaker and more susceptible to the breakdown of its fibers.

The quilt has been soaked, hand-washed and line-dried and comes from a smoke-free and pet-free home. It measures 80 inches by 81 inches. Shown on a queen-size bed.
