Antique Tulip Basket Quilt – c. 1870–1890 – Hand Quilted --62"x78"

A beautiful and authentic 19th-century American tulip basket quilt, hand pieced and hand quilted, dating to the late 1800s. This quilt features repeating stylized tulips, rendered in rich Turkey red and dark pink with white dots planted in soft, time-worn tan basket motifs set against a mellow cream background. The precise and tiny hand-quilting is in diamond grids and double diagonals.

The overall design is an early American classic, derived from mid-19th-century tulip and vase patterns, prized by collectors for their strong folk-art presence and enduring symbolism of abundance and renewal.

The back is white cotton while the binding is tan cotton that has been machine-stitched to the front and hand-stitched to the back. The cotton batting is lightweight.

The quilt is in excellent condition, appearing to be unused and never washed. There is light, age-related toning and fading and beginning fraying on parts of the binding.
