Such a beautiful 1930s Star & Cross Signature Quilt -- it is well-preserved and a wonderful example of Depression-era thrift and gifting, It is hand pieced and hand quilted using period feed-sack and cotton prints. Each block features embroidered names, creating a true friendship or community quilt while the palette of red, white, and blue is classic to the era, and the prints—small florals, novelty motifs, and feed-sack designs blend beautifully.

The hand-quilting is tiny and expertly done and is in diagonals in the body of the quilt and in a braided rope pattern along the four-sided border. The back is white cotton while the binding is blue cotton that has been machine stitched to the back and hand-stitched to the front. The cotton batting is lightweight.

The quilt is in excellent vintage condition with some lost embroidery stitches in one signature and some beginning fraying of the binding. See photos.
