  • Details
This lovely scrappy Double Wedding Ring Quilt dates from the early 1930s to the early 1940s. Its hand-quilting is utilitarian and widely spaced, typical of Depression-era utility quilts, while the piecing and fabric selection is exquisite in this deceptively difficult curved double wedding ring pattern.

The lively mix of period cotton prints are consistent with feedsack and domestic fabrics of the 1930s, while the aqua/seafoam background is striking especially in contrast to the four-patch centers at the intersections of the rings.

The charming red floral cotton back has been turned to the front on the top and bottom and machine stitched to form the binding. The fabric on the sides has been turned inward and hand-sewn to form the binding. The cotton batting is light to medium weight.

The quilt is in very good vintage condition, with some light color transfer visible from the red fugitive dyes to other fabrics and some overall age-related fading of the fabrics.
