  • Details
This is a wonderfully vibrant and authentic 1940s Battle Ax of Thor quilt, pieced from an lovely variety of period cottons, including printed feed sack and dress fabrics. The bold geometric block pattern (also historically known as a “Battle Ax” or Thor motif) is set with bright green sashing surrounded by a fabric mix of cheerful florals, lively novelty prints, and classic 1930s–40s color combinations in aqua, red, navy, and chrome yellow.

The hand-quilting is in tiny, precise stitches and in a pattern of straight-line grids that are spaced between 1/4 inch and 1/3 inch apart. The back is cream/off-white cotton that has been turned to the front and machine-stitched to form the binding. The cotton batting is lightweight.

The quilt is in excellent vintage condition with no issues noted.
