This is a bold and beautifully graphic vintage 1970s Scherenschnitte appliqué quilt, handmade in Nova Scotia, with a handwritten label identifying Suzanne Caswell as its maker. This striking textile translates the traditional art of paper cutting into fabric, resulting in a highly decorative folk art quilt.
The very fine hand quilting is visible throughout, with thoughtful stitching that echoes the appliqué shapes. Around the four-sided border the hand-quilting is a lovely cross-hatch grid. The back is matching blue cotton as is the binding that has been machine-stitched to the front and hand-stitched to the back. The cotton batting is lightweight.
The quilt is in excellent vintage condition with no issues noted. It remains structurally sound and a wonderful statement piece.
