This 1930s Double Wedding Ring quilt is pieced from a scrappy variety of Depression-era fabrics, including: • Soft, light-ground florals typical of Depression-era cottons • Cheerful novelty prints and small geometrics • Pastel tones in pinks, blues, greens, and lavenders • Bright chrome yellows used at the four-patch blocks • Shirting-style prints and simple calicoes • A mix of fine cottons, many likely repurposed household textiles
The hand-quilting is in outlines of the interlocking patchwork and in floral/geometric patterns in the open white areas. The back is white cotton while the binding is green cotton that has been machine stitched to the front and hand-stitched to the back. The cotton batting is unsized and lightweight.
CONDITION: About 90% of the quilt remains in very good, sturdy condition, but the quilt is being sold as a cutter quilt because it shows significant wear and fabric loss, especially along parts of the border/edges. There are scattered holes, fabric loss, and age-related fading. See photos.
