This vibrant Ninety Nine Times Around the World Quilt is a wonderfully colorful quilt made in Alabama by a quilter named Myrl Harris, who finished it at the age of 76 and signed and dated it (including the year of her birth) in embroidery along the binding - see photos.
The quilt pattern is arranged in concentric diamonds radiating outward from a soft yellow center. Thousands of hand-cut fabric squares create a dazzling and cheerful motif of florals, ginghams, stripes, paisleys, novelty fabrics, bandana reds, and rich blues. As a result, the composition has an almost kaleidoscopic quality.
The lovely hand quilting is in diagonals across the expanse of the quilt. The back is a tan cotton floral print that has been turned to the front and hand-stitched to form the binding. The batting is very lightweight.
CONDITION: The quilt is sturdy and in excellent vintage condition with one small repair to an inch-long tear on the top. It has been soaked and hand washed in fragrance free soap, then line-dried, giving a light natural sun-dried cotton scent (not artificially fragranced).
