This multigenerational Dutch Rose Quilt from Terre Haute, Indiana features twelve hand-appliquéd floral blocks in shades of rose pink, soft pink, and green against a white background, all framed by deep rose-pink sashing and elongated white lattice sections.
A note attached to the back of the quilt identifies Honora Hannah Haring Eckerman as the original maker of the appliqué blocks sometime between 1940 and 1950 and lists six friends as completing the quilt, including by extensively hand quilting it in the 1990s, finishing the quilt as of October 8, 1998. The six friends include Masumi Wilkinson, Ann Hurst, Mary Alice Klueh, Catherine Steppe, Reiko Williams & Helen Mary Avelis (daughter of Honora Eckerman).
The hand quilting by the six friends is beautiful and extensive. It includes twisted rope patterns along the four-sided border and in the sashing, as well as outlines of the appliqué and patchwork. The back is white cotton while the binding is green cotton that has been machine stitched to the front and handstitched to the back. The batting is lightweight and thin.
CONDITION: This quilt is in excellent vintage condition. The colors remain vibrant and the quilting is intact. Please examine the photographs carefully as they form an important part of the description.
