This is a beautiful French Rose Quilt with serpentine floral border and elaborate echo quilting all in coral-red and aqua against a white ground. The fabrics are Depression-era floral prints and bright aqua cottons, while the hand applique is in the tiniest of stitches (see photos) and the hand quilting is exquisite.
Every appliqué motif is surrounded by dense hand-worked echo quilting in tiny stitches by an exceptionally skilled maker. The red sashing is quilted in a twisted floral pattern. The appliqué itself is equally impressive. Each flower has carefully turned hand-sewn edges, elegant cut-out details, and delicate bias stems. The three-sided border complements the center with roses at each corner and winding leaves and roses winding their way to each corner.
The back is white cotton while the binding is a wide aqua cotton print that has been machine stitched to the front and handstitched to the back. The cotton batting is lightweight.
CONDITION: The quilt is in excellent vintage condition. Please examine the photos as they are an important part of the description.
