This lovely Grandmother’s Flower Garden Quilt, circa 1930s, is a rare variation of a grandmother's flower garden design and stands out with its rich chocolate brown field and flower gardens mixed with diamond points. It is made of thousands of hexagons in colorful florals and other cottons. The result is a bold, graphic interpretation of the iconic quilt pattern.
The quilt is entirely hand pieced from the thousands of hexagons and each is hand quilted in an outline of the hexagon. The fabrics include feedsack prints, florals, plaids, ginghams, stripes, polka dots, and novelty prints. Several are scarce mid-century novelty prints that include butterflies and cheerful prints.
The back is a solid mint green cotton that has been turned to the front and handstitched to form the binding. The batting appears to be lightweight flannel cotton that is nonetheless a little heavier than cotton batting.
CONDITION: The quilt is in excellent vintage condition. Please examine the photographs as they form an important part of the description. The quilt has been soaked, freshly hand washed and line dried, giving it a light, natural, sun-dried cotton scent (not artificially fragranced).
