  • Details
This is a beautiful antique Double Wedding Ring Quilt dating to approximately 1938–1943, with an exceptional assortment of late Depression-era and early 1940s cotton prints.

The interlocking rings are pieced from dozens of different small-scale florals, novelty prints, plaids, dots, geometrics and dress-print cottons in red, pink, yellow, blue, green, purple and black. Bright turquoise-blue squares mark the intersections of the rings and give the quilt a distinctive graphic quality against the white ground.

Several of the fabrics are period dress and feedsack cottons, while others are novelty and conversational prints typical of the era. The tremendous variety of fabrics makes this an especially interesting quilt for anyone who enjoys studying vintage textiles.

The hand quilting is closely spaced and is in outlines of the patchwork and its rings and also in geometric shapes in the open white areas. The back is a plain cream-white cotton back while the binding is green and white cotton that has been machine stitched to the front and handstitched to the back. The cotton batting is lightweight.

CONDITION: The quilt is in excellent vintage condition. Please examine all photographs closely, as they are an important part of the description.
