  • Details
This is a striking example of a mid-century Lone Star quilt, combining an earlier 1950s quilt top with lively long-arm finishing. The top of this large bright vintage Lone Star Quilt was made in the 1950s while the long arm quilting came much later, in the late 1980s or 1990s.

This beautiful lone star is made from solid cotton fabrics in a distinctly mid-century palette of turquoise, royal blue, pink, orange, chocolate brown, yellow, pale blue, green, lavender and red-pink, all set against a pale yellow ground. The large central Lone Star is carefully pieced from rows of hundreds of elongated diamonds.

The color combination is particularly characteristic of the postwar period, especially the use of turquoise, brown, orange, pink and clear yellow together. The pale blue fabric used within the star has a subtle tonal pattern that also appears consistent with 1950s cotton.

The quilt was later longarm quilted in curlicues and elongated swirls, which looks lovely on top of giving the quilt strength and stability. The back is yellow cotton while the binding is purple cotton that has been machine stitched to the front and handstitched to the back. The batting is lightweight.

CONDITION: Very good vintage condition overall. The fabrics remain bright and visually strong, with minor age-related wear. Please review all photographs closely as they form an important part of the description.
