  • Details
    Antique late 19th-century hand-quilted quilt dating to approximately 1885–1895 and measuring 63” x 79”.

The quilt is pieced in a strong red, green and white palette using Victorian cotton prints. The green fabric is a small-scale floral print typical of late-19th-century quilts, paired with a tiny black-on-white shirting print and a red cotton printed with small yellow dots.

The hand quilting is extensive and in repeating shell grids throughout the quilt. The back is a tan paisley printed cotton in muted red, green and cream tones while the binding is a dark green floral. The cotton batting is lightweight.

CONDITION: Good antique condition with age-related wear and fading. Several of the red areas show noticeable fading to a lighter red or pinkish tone, consistent with age and use. Please review the photographs closely as they form an important part of the description. The quilt has been soaked, freshly hand washed and line dried, giving it a light, natural, sun-dried cotton scent (not artificially fragranced).
