This is a classic vintage Dresden Plate quilt from the late 1930s to early 1940s with 20 very colorful Dresden Plate blocks and a four-sided ice cream cone scalloped border.
Each Dresden Plate is composed of small florals, checks, polka dots, stripes, and geometric patterns. The fabrics include many characteristic Depression-era prints, with soft pinks, lavender, mint green, yellow, red, and blue against a white background.
The hand quilting outlines the Dresden Plates and the ice cream cone patchwork and is in concentric circles through the middle of each plate. The hand quilting is especially dense in the white ground where it is in a closely spaced crosshatch grid.
The back is white cotton while a narrow blue binding follows the contours of the scallops and has been machine stitched to the front and handstitched to the back. The cotton batting is lightweight.
CONDITION: The quilt is in very good condition with some beginning fraying of the blue binding. Please examine all photographs carefully as they form an important part of the description. The quilt has been soaked, freshly hand washed and line dried, giving it a light, natural, sun-dried cotton scent (not artificially fragranced).
