This colorful Ocean Waves Quilt dates to the 1930s–1940s and features an extensive assortment of vintage cotton prints in pink, red, yellow, blue, green, brown, and black. The fabrics include florals, ginghams, plaids, stripes, polka dots, and novelty prints, many characteristic of Depression-era quilts.
The quilt is hand pieced from hundreds of small triangles arranged in the traditional Ocean Waves pattern. The colorful patchwork surrounds white diamond-shaped centers with hand quilting in diagonal grids throughout the body of the quilt. In the open white areas the hand quilting is in repeating crosshatch grids.
Along the two sides there is a narrow yellow, green, and black plaid border. The back is cream white cotton that has been turned to the front and handstitched to form the binding. The cotton batting is lightweight.
CONDITION: Very good vintage condition, with some beginning fraying along the edge of the binding. The colorful fabrics remain vibrant, and the hand quilting is intact. Please examine the photographs as they form an important part of the description. The quilt has been soaked, freshly hand washed and line dried, giving it a light, natural, sun-dried cotton scent (not artificially fragranced).
