Such a lovely (and large) vintage Double Wedding Ring Quilt dating to the 1940s to 1950s, with a distinctive scalloped border finished with bright red binding.
The interlocking wedding rings are pieced from florals, geometric prints, checks, stripes, novelty prints, and colorful solids in shades of red, turquoise, lavender, pink, blue, green, yellow, and brown. The rings intersect at four-patch blocks of turquoise and lavender.
The hand quilting outlines the tiny patchwork and the curves of the rings and is in geometric/floral motifs in the open ivory-white centers of the rings. The scalloped edges follow the contours of the wedding rings on all four sides.
The back is cream-white cotton while the binding is red cotton that has been machine stitched to the front and handstitched to the back. The cotton batting is very lightweight.
CONDITION: Excellent vintage condition with vibrant colors and lovely hand quilting. Please examine the photographs carefully, as they form an important part of the description. The quilt has been soaked, freshly hand washed and line dried, giving it a light, natural, sun-dried cotton scent (not artificially fragranced).
