Antique 1920s Ocean Waves Cutter Quilt - Hand Quilted Cotton - 69” x 77”

Such an interesting and beautiful vintage Ocean Waves Quilt dating to approximately 1925–1935, featuring an intricate Ocean Waves design composed of hundreds of small triangles.

The assortment of fabrics include ginghams, plaids, stripes, lattice prints, and geometric designs in shades of pink, lavender, turquoise, blue, green, yellow, red, and navy. The varied fabrics create a wonderfully detailed pattern of interlocking waves surrounding diamond-set squares.

The quilt has been extensively hand quilted with closely spaced parallel rows of a straight line grid through the patchwork and additional quilting in the borders. The back is a pale blue-green cotton as is the binding that has been handstitched to both sides. The cotton batting is unsized and lightweight.

CONDITION: This quilt is being sold as a cutter quilt due to fabric deterioration concentrated primarily along portions of the outer border. In several areas, the border fabric has deteriorated, exposing the underlying cotton batting. Despite the border damage, the great majority of the quilt remains in beautiful condition. The colorful patchwork fabrics are largely intact. As a result, this would be an excellent candidate for restoration - replacing the deteriorated border fabric could preserve the quilt for many years to come.

The quilt has been soaked, freshly hand washed in fragrance-free detergent and line dried outdoors, giving it a light, natural, sun-dried cotton scent (not artificially fragranced).
