Vintage 1930s Double Wedding Ring Quilt that is mostly (80 percent) intact but is being sold as a cutter quilt. It is made of colorful patchwork rings against a white cotton background with rings pieced from period cotton prints, including small florals, novelty prints, polka dots, checks, stripes, and geometric designs in pink, blue, lavender, green, and red. The intersections are alternating squares of bright golden yellow and turquoise blue.
The quilt is entirely hand pieced and hand quilted, with closely spaced quadruple lines following the curved wedding rings and intersections and with floral petals hand quilted in the open white areas. The traditional scalloped edges follow the contours of the outer rings.
The back is white cotton while the binding is a lime green cotton that has been machine stitched to the front and handstitched to the back. The cotton batting is unsized and lightweight.
Details: * Date: Circa 1930s * Pattern: Double Wedding Ring * Measurements: 74” x 91” * Construction: Hand pieced and hand quilted * Fabrics: Assorted 1930s printed and solid cottons * Colors: White background with multicolored patchwork rings and golden yellow and turquoise intersections * Traditional scalloped edges * White cotton backing
Condition: This quilt is being sold as a cutter quilt due to age-related fabric deterioration and loss, particularly around the outer scalloped edges. Several areas have worn or missing fabric, with some exposed batting and weakened patchwork pieces. Additional scattered fabric deterioration is present throughout.
Despite these issues, approximately 80% of the quilt remains intact, including substantial sections of attractive original patchwork and hand quilting. The overall Double Wedding Ring design remains clearly visible, and much of the interior is in considerably better condition than the damaged outer edges. Please examine all photographs carefully as they form an important part of the description.
