Vintage 1930s Pink and White Basket Quilt – Unique Asymmetrical Design – 67” x 71”

A beautifully preserved vintage Basket Quilt dating to the 1930s or early 1940s, featuring sixteen pink and white pieced and appliquéd baskets against a crisp white cotton background. The baskets are constructed from a charming pink cotton print with tiny darker pink motifs, characteristic of the period.

The quilt has an unusual arrangement, with the baskets in the two center columns facing upright while those along the outer columns are turned sideways in opposite directions. This somewhat unconventional, asymmetrical arrangement gives the quilt a distinctive character.

The quilt has been all over quilted by a sewing machine covering virtually the entire quilt in closely spaced diagonal lines forming diamonds throughout the surface. The quilting extends across the baskets and surrounding white background.

The back is white cotton as is the binding that has been machine stitched to the front and handstitched to the back. The cotton batting is lightweight and very thin.
